When I first received the Collefun Four-Tier Plastic Storage Bins, I was astonished by the small size of the box. At 17 x 11 x 7, the idea it could contain a tall shelf’s worth of storage seemed impossible.

Opening the box was even stranger.

Inside, I found the flat pieces and knobs in this review’s first picture. I looked for instructions in the box and did not find them. But for the sake of the economy of space at which Collefun excels, the instructions were packed flat along with the bottom bin and consisted of one flat page.

Surveying the parts for the bin shelf made me appreciate the careful, insulated packaging, and box-within-a-box protection, which isn’t always provided with Amazon. It’s important in this case because all of the parts consist of thin plastic and are somewhat delicate.

One flaw in the design of these bins is the fiddly seating of the sides when you put each bin together. This is specifically a problem on the side of the bins that opens: the piece that frames the vertical access lid just doesn’t want to click into place, and the right side of that piece — on all four bins — was particularly hard to make click. You have to press in slightly and then down, which proves much harder to do successfully than it sounds.

The handles that double ingeniously as locking pieces for each level of the box are also hard to press into a locking position. Strength is necessary, but also hand placement. You can’t just hold the top of the bin shelf with one hand as you press in the latches with your other because if you do, you’ll unseat the walls of the top bin all over again. Instead, you just press your free hand against the locking handle on other side of the particular bin you’re seating.

If only one of the bins had had all of these problems, I’d assume the issue was a manufacturing defect. But since all four bins did, perhaps Collefin should troubleshoot this design or its production and make the pieces click into place more firmly and easily.

All of this calls attention to the manufacturer’s registration card included with the instructions. The idea is to be notified if there is a recall for safety or other reasons. Perhaps the card might also cover issues with this unusual and possibly early-stage design. The entire product is so well-thought-out that perhaps follow-up corrections will be made.

All of this makes me hope for a later version that is either all metal or uses well-tested metal pieces for the locking parts. Once you have the bin shell built, it is far too easy to unseat the fruits of your work.

Even so, this is the most comprehensive solution to mobile, stackable storage bins that I’ve ever seen. The wheels at the bottom ensure you’re less likely to lift the entire structure and so unseat parts of it. But if you want a flat-bottomed bin shelf with no wheels, it will sit that way in your corner without any problems.

Additionally, the bin modules are designed for any stacking option you desire. If you only need three bins, or have vertical space constraints, then the top lid will fit two bins as well as four.

All in all, this is an extremely useful and small-space-perfect storage solution. The white version is also presentable enough to work as shelving beside your proper furniture.

If not for the delicate fastening edges of the bins, and the pointless difficulty of securing them, I would give this bin system five stars. There is nothing else like it that I’ve seen even from companies like The Container Store, so I’d be remiss if I didn’t give the Collefun at least four stars.

    Easy to Build

Great for organizing snacks! East to assemble!

I have a couple of these storage organizers and they work well in any room. You can use them as one whole piece, or use each section separately. They are not heavy at all, but are sturdy enough to hold almost anything. They easily fit into a closet, or you can put them individually on a shelf. The doors flip down easily to store your items. The wheels roll smoothly in case you need to move it around.

While this storage unit was fairy easy to assemble, couldn’t help noticing how flimsy the parts are (especially in comparison to a similar plastic storage unit of sections with doors). Keep in mind, there’s only one lid (same as with my other storage unit), so if you wanted to set it up as two separate two-box storage units you can’t, there’s only one lid. Also of note, when one box didn’t want to be clamped to the one below, trying a different box was the way to go…they all finally locked together. Since the unit is currently holding accessories in a closet, I chose not to use the wheels. Keeping in mind how easy it is to lose track of parts that may be needed at a later date, they are safe stored in the bottom section of this storage unit, ready to be put to work should the need arise. If you’re planning to store lightweight items, this storage unit could work, but i would hesitate to store anything of weight (originally was planning to use it in a pantry, but a wire shelf unit designed to hold heavy items ended up being the better option).

They’re a bit smaller than what I was expecting and very flimsy. I was hoping to use them for book storage and some semi-heavier items, but they don’t have the toughness for that.

They were quite simple to assemble, just click into place. Slot in the wheels, stack up and good to go. Though, only the top box has a lid, the bottom of the other boxes serves as the lids for the others.

If you’re looking for a cheap nick-nack storage, this should be fine. But, I wouldn’t use them for much more than that.

  7. sharon

Very nice. Worth what I paid (only get ones on sale). The magnets hold the doors closed quite well.

  8. Robespierre

These bins have been a quiet game changer for keeping things tidy around the house. They stack up neatly without feeling unstable, and the foldable design means they don’t hog space when not in use. What I really like is how you can open them from the top or the front—super convenient when you’re digging for something in the middle of a stack.

The see-through panel saves time too—no more opening every bin just to find one charger. They’re easy to move around thanks to the smooth-rolling wheels, and the little magnetic door and soft handles actually make them feel nicer to use than most storage boxes. Perfect for wrangling craft supplies, pantry extras, or any of that random stuff that never seems to have a home.

I ordered the 4-pack of stacking crates. The set of 4 came with 4 casters. The crates were easy to assemble, and the wheels just pop on the bottom. There is one lid provided.

Each crate is open at the top (except for the one that you put the sole lid on). Each crate has 1 handle on each of the short sides.

Each crate can be used on its own, or you can stack them two by two, or one stack of 3 and one on its own.

The crates stack well. The handles of one crate can be used to lock it to the crate above. I found I had to press down on the stack of crates (kind of exerting pressure to squish it down) in order to get the handle to clip onto the crate above it.

There is one lid provided, so if you don’t stack the crates into one tower of 4, then only one crate will have a lid. The lid is not hinged. It just snaps on like a tupperware lid.

The door of each crate opens smoothly and is easy to close, no issues.

I was disappointed in the quality of the plastic that these crates are made of. It’s a flexible plastic. It doesn’t feel very sturdy. It doesn’t feel super flimsy, either, but flimsy enough that I would not recommend putting heavy items in the crates if you have made them into a tower of 4. These crates are like a thinner and more flexible version of milk crates. They looked much more solid in the photos than they are in real life.

I’d give these crates 3.5 stars out of 5, just because at $56.49 for a set of 4, that makes them $14.12 each, and I think that’s overpriced for the quality that you get. They should be priced around $10 each at most, in my opinion.

I won’t buy it again next time, the locks on both sides are easily worn out. Low cost manufacturing.
